Het Doel van de Stichting Ethiopisch Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Nederland
De stichting Ethiopische Orthodoxe kerk in Nederland, Debre Mewi Heilige Gabriël Kerk, stelt zich ten doel de Ethiopische Orthodoxe Tewahedo christenen in Nederland de beleving van hun godsdienst, volgens leer en traditie van de Ethiopische Orthodoxe Eredienst, te onderrichten
Het geven van godsdienstles en elkaar ontmoeten staan centraal, maar ook zet de stichting zich in voor activiteiten op het vlak van zorg, welzijn, educatie voor kinderen, en m.b.t. maatschappelijke thema’s.
De stichting Ethiopische Orthodoxe kerk in Nederland, Debre Mewi Heilige Gabriel Kerk heeft de vereniging Association of Fnote – Selam Followers Postbus 69217, 1060 CE Amsterdam, KvK nummer 34142897 opgericht voor het bijeenbrengen van de Ethiopische Orthodoxe gemeenschap in Amsterdam en omgeving ter bevordering van de beginselen van eenheid, liefde en vrede.
De stichting Ethiopische Orthodoxe kerk in Nederland heeft van de parochie Nicolaas Pieck en gezellen te Rotterdam een kerk in Pernis Overhandstraat 71, 3195 SE gekocht.
Door de stichting werden volgens afspraak alle betalingen voor laatstgenoemde kerk op tijd betaald. Hierdoor is de hypotheek voor het genoemde pand volledig ingelost.
Definition of Orthodox Tewahedo
Orthodox
Orthodox means, in Greek, straight or right. This term was used as part of the name of the church by the bishops and scholars of the church who attended the Council of Nicea (a city near the current Istanbul). The council was summoned because of Arius’ false teachings on the nature of Christ. The scholars and bishops called their faith “Orthodox” after defeating Arius in the argument in the council,.
Currently, six oriental churches, namely the Ethiopian, Egyptian, Syrian, Indian (Malankara), Armenian and Eritrean churches and other Eastern Churches like the Russian and Greek churches use the name “Orthodox”.
Tewahedo
Tewahedo stands for the term incarnation or union, which in other words means oneness, and shows the Son being perfect God- perfect man, but as one entity, which is the basic dogma of the church. Our church believes that the Son, who existed before the creation of this world, came to this world and assumed the human flesh and soul, and in doing so, he has become a perfect God - a perfect man, having just one entity.
